A little history...
1881, the beginning of a beautiful story with 126 years of rescue at sea in the Lavandou.
126 years during which men have kept alive the will and wishes of the Ancients.
126 years during which men on sea have saved men on sea, sometimes risking their own lives.
126 years later, they are still highly motivated by the same altruism, they do their best to avoid “tears which would have a taste of salt.”
A boat called « Colonel Marcel Rigaud »
The boat « Colonel Marcel Rigaud », has been working in the Lavandou since 1994. Of 10,50 metres length, equipped of two engines of 250 CC’s Turbo, she goes out about 40 times a year, to save and rescue people in danger at sea.
Moreover, she makes 10 to 12 medical evacuations a year on the islands.
With a heart as big as the sea, the 25 benevolent members who constitute the staff are ready to go 24H/24 and in less than a quarter after the alarm, nights and days, 365 days/365.
A staff qualified...
With an average of 15 to 20 trainings a year, 10 to 12 exercises of winching up into a helicopter, nights and days with the help of the sea police and the customs. Thanks to the arrival of two local doctors, their skills and trainings have become permanent and complete.
From April to October, several cruisers stop in Le Lavandou.
The « Seabourn Legend » is one of the most faithful to our city. Built in 1992 in Seebeckwerft (building site) in Germany and renovated in 2000, she weights 9.975 tons and goes at 18 knots. Proud of her 134 metres, she has all the features of a « Country Club » on sea. Her 150 crew members offer to her 208 guests a service of luxury !
A private welcoming is always given to the American passengers of these marvellous boats who cross the sea in order to find prestigious places like the« Cité des Dauphins »
