The fountains

The fountains symbolize life and are present in each village of Provence. In le Lavandou, there are 13 fountains that offer water as a sign of welcoming.  Their crystalline whisper is a real delight for walkers.  Without their sound, the small squares of the old village of fishermen wouldn’t be quite the same. Take the time to listen to their music, it will tell you the story of le Lavandou…

THE FOUNTAIN OF SAINT-LOUIS

Breath coming from a wall adorned by old panes in the simplicity of stone and the strength of faith.

THE FOUNTAIN HIPPOLYTE-ADAM

This fountain was built to the tribute of this famous banker, born in Boulogne-sur-Mer, precursor of the great tourist appeal of le Lavandou and friend of Gustave Eiffel. He settled in the Cap Layet.

THE FOUNTAIN ON THE BOURDAN SQUARE IN CAVALIERE

It runs just next to the beach and the place of bowls game, in the shed of plane trees, on the square Bourdan. This latter was a journalist of London radio and drowned in the bay of Cavalière in 1953.

THE FOUNTAIN OF THE ROUND-ABOUT DE KRONBERG

Like a disk or a mirror in time of lull, it can, like the sea, rage with sprays of foam. It stands as a portent of the weather.

A mirror for the birds

It stands at the foot of the “Square des Héros”, hidden by the vegetation, an ideal thirst quenching stop before flying towards the Azur.

THE BOLLARD – FOUNTAIN OF THE BOWLS GAME.

To refresh yourself during the bowls game called “La pétanque”, and as a friendship sign from the village of Bormes-Les-Mimosas, symbolized by the lion (before the 25th of May 1913, Le Lavandou was a disctrict of Bormes-Les-Mimosas).

THE « LOU LAVADOU » FOUNTAIN

With the shape of a washtub, it reminds us of the etymology of the name le Lavandou, at the time when the « bugadières » wash the “pescadous” linen in a tub full of fresh water. They did so next to the small fishing boats that were up on the shore.

THE FOUNTAIN OF SAINT-CLAIR

Next to the chapel and to the place of the “Romérage”, it reminds us of the legend of Saint-Clair, patron of the dressmakers, who bathed the eyes of blind persons to heal them from blindness.

THE BASIN OF THE MADO SQUARE

Veiled reference to the old washtub that stood in the station area that we call « the basin ». It is an invitation to make a stop on this small cool square.

THE FOUNTAIN OF THE BEAUTIFUL SPRING

The legend says that it brings the water from the alps without never stopping to run, in an ochre dripping, always fresh.

THE FOUNTAIN ARGAUD

Located on the small square, it was offered to the city of Le Lavandou by the family of this famous aviator.

THE TWINS FOUNTAIN

Like a message of hope from le Lavandou to Europe and its en twin town “Kronberg”.

THE FOUNTAIN « LES TROIS DAUPHINS »

Generous and welcoming, this fountain symbolizes the blazon of Le Lavandou with its dolphins and its lion surrounded by oaks and olive trees.
